Ama Youna (Golda) Houndoh, MSc, is a Program Associate in the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute's Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research department. Before joining PCORI in November 2021, she served as the Program Director of Cayenne Wellness Center and Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit in California dedicated to improving the lives of people living with Sickle Cell Disease by connecting them to medical homes and addressing their immediate, holistic needs. There, she oversaw all project and functional operations for the 501©3, as well as conducted landscape analyses and managed data to inform strategic project proposals and grant writing. Experienced in assessing context and needs, designing and coordinating overlapping projects, managing implementation, and measuring success with sophistication and precision in institutional, political, and culturally challenging and diverse contexts, her lived experience as an adult living with SCD guides her patient-centered approach to public health.
Ms. Houndoh, a versatile, proactive, and enthusiastic nonprofit professional, obtained her MSc in Global Health Policy in 2020 from the University of Edinburgh and her BA in Global Development Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Virginia in 2019. Her MSc dissertation analyzed disparities within the United States healthcare system by critically appraising the Sickle Cell Disease and Other Heritable Blood Disorders Research, Surveillance, Prevention, and Treatment Act of 2018. A first-generation, Togoolese-American, with experience in community-based action research, she is passionate about addressing the social determinants of health.
