Yvonne M. Carroll, RN, JD is the Director of Patient Services in the Department of Hematology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She has been at St. Jude since 1999. She is a lawyer and a nurse. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from the University of Tennessee and a Law degree from the University of Cincinnati. She is a military veteran and served as a Judge Advocate General in the United States Navy. Yvonne is involved with community advocacy and dedicated to the improvement of care for children with sickle cell disease and other hematologic disorders.
Yvonne is a member of the Tennessee Governor’s Genetic Advisory Committee and sits on several national sickle cell boards including the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses and Professional Associates (IASCNAPA).
Yvonne’s interests include sickle cell transition from pediatric to adult care, stigma and sickle cell disease, and sickle cell patient and provider education. She is currently working with IASCNAPA, The University of Tennessee School of Nursing, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, on a grant sponsored by Global Blood Therapeutics, to develop a 5-day intensive Sickle Cell Nursing bootcamp. Yvonne has worked with the sickle cell community for more than 20 years, and for the past several years has been involved in a collaboration with the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, Nigeria to develop a newborn screening program in Kano, Nigeria.
